From the Principal
Welcome to Avonhead Primary School. We are a full-primary school catering
for children from 5 years of age up to 13 years (Year 1 – Year 8).
We have large, attractive grounds, modern teaching spaces, committed staff and delightful students who are focussed on real quality learning.
Avonhead children are strong Cantabrians and our distinctive uniform proudly uses the colours of our province – red and black. We have a real global mix of children that adds to the richness of our school culture. We have a total of 37 different nationalities represented in the total school population.
We have a great collective vision for the school and we will be working hard to achieve this over the next few years. Our approach will be encouraging and developing a sense of inquiry in learning; encouraging innovation; providing on-going improvement; risk-taking and entrepreneurship.
We will continue to promote high standards and will be helping children to become thinkers and learners for life. We are also getting up to speed with ICT to help us unlock the potential of technology to develop quality learning.
Children at Avonhead School are busy people. There are so many opportunities both in and out of the classroom and sometimes it is difficult to keep up with the many things that are happening around the school. We have a strong sporting and cultural programme and provide opportunities to participate in many events in the wider community that will nurture strengths and talents and develop leadership skills whilst fostering community spirit. You will find that as your children get older, the opportunities for involvement are even greater.
As parents, I welcome and encourage your partnership with the school.
Your involvement in school life, your participation in the learning programmes
and your interest and support in the activities of your child will enrich
the primary school experience which can be one of the most memorable stages
in your child’s education.
